Community Week on Iona

5 August 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 11 August 2023 @ 10:00 am

A view of Iona from the ferry

Faith, life and radical discipleship in urban contexts.

This week is for Members of the Iona Community and their families only. Our time together at Community Week will be facilitated by Jono and Julie Ryan and Angus R. Mathieson. Jono and Julie live in a small missional community in a low-income part of Dunedin, Aotearoa/New Zealand. Angus is an Iona Community Member, Presbytery and Partnership Support Manager for the Faith Action in the Church of Scotland Offices, he has been a Church of Scotland Minister for 35 years and is passionate about social justice and partnership working.

Accommodation

Subsidised spaces for Members and their families are available for this week at the MacLeod Centre on a self-catering basis. Please contact IonaAbbeyBookings@iona.org.uk for more information about this option.

To book young people aged 12 – 18 in to Camas, contact camasprogramme@iona.org.uk for all information and to confirm details.

Our Camas Centre on Mull is hosting a ‘Community & Local Kids’ week from Monday 7th – Friday 11th August for young folk aged 12 – 18. NB young folk arriving with family on Iona on 5th August will be welcome to stay at the MacLeod Centre on Iona until the Monday morning, when they’ll travel on to Camas.

Staying elsewhere?

For those staying elsewhere on Iona or Mull for Community Week, please let us know where you are staying, for how long, and who is in your party (contact ionaabbeybookings@iona.org.uk). We ask that you pay a £15 fee per person (children free) which will cover all administration elements of Community Week, including teas and coffees during the plenary sessions, and the Sunday Afternoon Tea with islanders. Payment should be made in cash at the Welcome Centre on Iona.

Sharing the journey?

Many of our wider Community would love to be travelling to Iona in August. But those of us who are travelling can share the journey through photos and short video. We would use the imagery on social media throughout the day on Saturday 5th August to tell a story of journeying together.  We won’t need more than 4 photos/short videos from each participant.  If you would be willing to take part in this fun story-telling project, please contact Leanne@iona.org.uk
