Poverty premiums are the extra costs faced by people living in poverty for essential goods and services such as food, fuel and finance. This can mean everything from pre-payment meters for energy to cheque-cashing services and high-cost lenders to the lack of well-priced, healthy food available in many poor communities. The Closing the Gap project aims to address poverty premiums through community-led solutions.
