I am writing to you as  fellow members of the Iona Community and  supporters of peace and justice concerns. The film ‘Selma’ is shortly going on public release telling the story of Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic march from Selma to Montgomery Alabama for voting rights  then denied to African Americans.

From 8-13 March, as the attached leaflet indicates, I will be joining the 50th Anniversary march and raising funds for Anti-Slavery International’s work throughout the world, especially the campaigns again Human Trafficking.  I am dedicating the walk to my former roommate at Union Seminary NY, David Batzka (1941-2002) who was a great Civil Rights and Human Rights Activist.

I know that you will have many calls on your time and resources and will quite understand if you have enough of these, but I would be very grateful if you would consider making a contribution to ASI in sponsoring me. I have raised nearly £1,000 so far and hope to more than double that. The easiest way (as per the leaflet) is with Just Giving (and Gift Aid is possible) but contributions can be sent direct to ASI as shown (again Gift Aided)  All contributions will go to the cause – Isabel and I and an American friend (who is providing back up transport)  are covering our own expenses.

With best wishes,

Iain (Whyte)
