CAMAS ACTIVITY RESIDENT
A unique opportunity to work and live in a beautiful and remote bay on the West coast of Scotland at the outdoor centre with a difference! Camas is a residential centre providing nurturing outdoor experiences with a focus on youth work (particularly with groups from disadvantaged backgrounds), community building, a simple lifestyle and an environmental ethos. We also have an organic garden which produces food for the centre as well as being a learning resource.
We are seeking the right person to join the resident staff management team to:
- Welcome young people to community living, providing exceptional warmth and hospitality.
- Deliver outdoor activities with a flexible approach, including rock climbing, kayaking, coasteering and lead walks.
- Help operation of the centre e.g. maintain the buildings and equipment and planning.
- Mentor, support and lead volunteers.
- Take part in the everyday tasks of the centre – cooking, facilitating reflections and reviews, gardening and hanging out with young people.
Applicants must be willing to share fully in all aspects of life at Camas and able to thrive in a close-knit community setting. Resident Staff receive full Board and Lodgings, a monthly allowance and personal pension provision.

This posts will require the successful candidate to be or to become a Scheme Members under The Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG Scheme). Any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory report from the CRBS. Having a criminal record however will not exclude anyone from applying, or being considered for appointment.

UK Immigration Law means that it if there is a suitable candidate from the EU or otherwise already has the right to work in the UK we are not allowed to appoint someone who does not.
For the foreseeable future, and in particular the 2017 season, the Iona Community does not have staff accommodation on the islands that is suitable for families with children. We also cannot accommodate partners who are not themselves members of the resident staff. Potential candidates need to be aware that at present we can employ staff only on those terms, and take this into consideration when deciding whether to apply for a resident post.
