28th March – 2nd April 2018

Led by Dr Debbie Lewer

This Holy Week we will take a close look at some great and lesser-known works of visual art from the Middle Ages to our present to open up the story of Easter. This will be an opportunity to see how artists working in all kinds of circumstances – from power to poverty, the mainstream to the margins – have responded to Christ’s passion and resurrection and what that might mean for our own ways of seeing.

As we look, we may be moved and challenged, confused and even amused. We will encounter in art – as the disciples did in life – intimate moments of human love and failure, pain, loss, doubt and astonishing revelation. We may even find our eyes opened to some new perspectives on the most important story there is in the life of faith. Come and see things afresh.

Debbie Lewer is an art historian, Senior Lecturer in History of Art at the University of Glasgow and a regular speaker in churches, theological colleges and at festivals and retreats on the rich relationship between art and faith.
