We are absolutely delighted to announce that Allchurches Trust – one of the UK’s largest grant-making trusts  – has awarded the Iona Capital Appeal £45,000 for the refurbishment of the refectory.

Grants Officer, Peter Mojsa – seen here meeting Appeal Patron HRH Princess Anne the recent Appeal Reception  said of the ongoing refurbishment work:

“Iona has been a place of pilgrimage and sanctuary from the monastic community of the 6th Century to a modern community rebuilt in the shadow of the Great Depression, offering succour, support and opportunity, especially for those most in need. This ambitious project will ensure it continues to enrich and improve lives through its extraordinary mission for many more years to come and we’re delighted to be able to support it.”

The grant will be used to fund the  laying of underfloor thermal and noise insulation and heating, and levelling the floor so that it is accessible to people with mobility issues. We are deeply grateful to Allchurches Trust and look forward to welcoming them to experience the fruits of their generosity when the Abbey Centre reopens in 2010.
