Each week – year round and year in, year out – we hold a service of prayers for healing on Iona. Throughout the week visitors leave names of folk or situations for prayer in St Oran’s chapel and Quiet corner in the Abbey and folk send names in from around the world. These names are then included in the prayers we offer on a Tuesday evening. Currently, there are no visitors on Iona and the way we can do services is also significantly affected by the regulations in place to keep everyone safe during the current pandemic. Nevertheless our small staff team on the island continue to faithfully offer prayers in ways that they can.
Knowing how important this particular service of prayers for healing is for people round the world, we are trying – within the limitations imposed by both Covid19 and technology – to find ways of continuing to make this service available for folk to share in.
Tonight’s service can be viewed via this link on the Iona Community YouTube channel
You can download a copy of the Prayers for Healing Liturgy 12th May 2020 here
and we hope these will enable you to join with us in prayer and feel connected, contributing to, and supported by something which has been an important part of the ministry of the Iona Community, right from its very beginnings.
If you would have names (for individuals or situations) you would like to be included in the service please email [email protected] with ‘prayers for healing’ in the subject line. You do not need to provide surnames or extensive details (just a few words indicating nature – e.g. ‘receiving treatment’ – if you wish). Because of size issues with the video, it will not be possible to record all the names being individually read aloud but all will be included in the prayers at the service.
The work of the Iona Prayer Circle also continues through this time – for more information on this ministry and how to be involved or to request prayer see this page on our website
