The Iona Community welcomes the ‘declaration of the sanctity of life and the dignity of all’, which has been published by the Global Interfaith Commission on LGBT+ Lives and signed by faith leaders around the world. Alex Clare-Young, the moderator of the Iona Community LGBTQ+ Common Concern Network writes: ‘This declaration acknowledges, and apologises for, the role of religious teaching in homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia and calls for an end to the criminalisation of LGBTQ+ identities, violence against LGBTQ+ people and so-called ‘conversion therapy’. This is an important step forward for LGBTQ+ rights. I am delighted that Ruth Harvey, leader of the Iona Community, has signed the declaration, and I would strongly encourage our members, associates and friends to do so too.’ If you would like to know more, or to take action, please visit:
