with Prof. Alison Phipps
Saturday 11th June, 10-11am
Today we are delighted to be joined by Alison Phipps, Professor of Languages and Intercultural Studies UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts at the University of Glasgow. We will be considering the common misconceptions and dangerous assumptions underlying public discussion of migration and the Refugee Convention. Drawing on the recent response to the UK Government’s New Plan for Immigration and Asylum and the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s working group report, which Alison convened, the workshop will ask some questions of a practical nature about how best we might offer protection in a world where protections are being removed: RSE Response to UK Asylum System Proposed Reforms

COLUMBAFEST is our annual WeeWONDERBOX celebration of Faith, Culture, Politics and Creativity. Covid means our festival has to take a slightly different form this year – but the good news is…you can join us from wherever you are!
All sorts of good stuff is going on around our theme this year of Roots, Roads, and Rivers – talks, walks, liturgy, a Ceilidh, Sunday Papers, and a tenx9 session with Pádraig Ó Tuama and Paul Doran. There are also downloadable resources for doing reflective walks wherever you are.
