Big Sing for COP26: Saturday 6th November, at 2pm (UK time).
Meet outside the Scottish Parliament (front entrance, on Horse Wynd)
Thanks to all those who’ve already helped to spread the word about this event and are working behind the scenes. Banners are being made, a song list is being compiled and messages of support and enthusiasm are criss-crossing the ether – all fantastic!
There are couple of additions to the information sent out in the October newsletter…
1 Whilst not wishing to be exclusive, the organising group feels that its original yearning was for the Iona Community to make a statement, and therefore it’s as the Iona Community that we are inviting others to support us by singing with us under our banner. The message is ‘Come and join the Iona Community…’ rather than the event become a loose coalition of different groups, each with its own banner. We do hope that this doesn’t feel hard to the many and wonderful groups, all working for positive change in their own fields of specialism and expertise. We hope very much that they will wish to join. But the request, on this occasion, is that it should be promoted as an Iona Community event.
2 As with so many face to face gatherings for environmental causes, there exists the difficult dilemma of encouraging folk to travel a distance in order to attend whilst acknowledging that our travel inherently contributes to the problem itself. With this in mind, we’re delighted to announce that the Big Sing will be live-streamed so that those for whom travel would carry significant environmental cost are able to join in a different way. So even more of you can put this in your diaries now! Saturday 6th November, at 2pm (UK time).
Further details will follow. And of course, there’s always the possibility of Members, Associates and Friends coming together in their local areas or regions to organise their own Big Sings for COP26 on the same day.
Gathered and scattered….
