Iona Community Lecture 2022: Friday 10th June

In association with ColumbaFest:

Iona Community Lecture 2022 “These Stones Will Shout Aloud: gathering global voices on themes of climate justice, hospitality, faith and the integration of the whole of life.”

Friday 10th June 2022, 16:00 – 17:30, Glasgow University Chapel, and online (see below for booking details).

This lecture will start a weekend of activities including the Iona Community AGM, Saturday 11th June (09:30 – 11:00) and ColumbaFest, Saturday 11th June, 11:00 onwards.

We are delighted to be joined for this inaugural Iona Lecture by Alison PhippsHyab Yohannes and Pinar Aksu.

Through this annual lecture the Iona Community brings to public notice the voices of people from across the globe who connect faith with action. This reflects our conviction that ‘the radical, inclusive community we seek must be embodied in the community we practice.’

You can find out more about our work and witness, and join the Iona Community, here.

Alison Phipps is a Member of the Iona Community, Professor of Languages and Intercultural Studies, and UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts (RILA) at the University of Glasgow. Alison works closely with colleagues from the global south regularly bringing a multitude of voices together on issues of key concern and weaving in the arts in all ways, weaving theological and spiritual threads through the programme.

Of the UNESCO chair Alison says: ‘We hold the bowl of tears and expand the space for joy’. For her this is a deeply theological offering, inviting grief, loss, praise, lamentation, hospitality, fostership (what happens beyond hospitality), life-in-its-fullness.
