SUMMARY:Experience Easter on Iona (FULLY BOOKED)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\nExperience a special Holy Week on Iona\, where the land and sea scape will become our context for reconnecting with the events of Holy Week. \nDrawing on the idea of ‘Outside Holiness’ as explored by former Iona Community leaders\, in the prayers of George MacLeod and in the poetry of Kathy Galloway\, we’ll connect different locations across Iona with the events of Holy Week. \nThrough guided island pilgrimages\, reflective walking and sitting\, and outdoor worship\, we’ll discover how this ‘thin place’ opens us afresh to the story of service\, betrayal\, crucifixion and resurrection. \nJoin us as we explore the meanings of Easter within the walls of the Abbey and along the paths of holiness we shall discover in the wilder places of the island and of our hearts. \nProgramme facilitators\n\nCraig has been coming to Iona for over 25 years\, making many of those visits with his wife Meredith and their children Niamh and Euan. He is a Baptist Minister and College tutor in Wales\, and has been a member of the Iona Community for 15 years. In 2018 he published book based partly on his experiences of the Community\, Melodies of a New Monasticism: Bonhoeffer’s Vision & Iona’s Witness. In 2021\, he\, along with Wendy Lloyd\, helped lead the events of Holy Week on Iona\, and is very much looking forward to returning in 2026. \n  \n  \n\nWendy Lloyd has lived on the Isle of Mull since 2018\, where she runs a croft with her husband Jon. A qualified Mountain Leader\, she guides pilgrims on Mull and Iona through her project\, Mull Another Way and serves on the board of the Scottish Pilgrim Routes Forum. Wendy also works with both the Iona Community and the Guild of Health and St. Raphael. She holds a Masters in ‘Bible and the Contemporary World’ from the University of St Andrews and qualified as a Spiritual Director through Sarum College. \n  \n  \nCosts \n6 Nights: £870.00 per adult\, £435.00 for reduced rate.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”BOOK HERE” style=”custom” custom_background=”#568ea4″ custom_text=”#eae8e8″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2026-04-01%26stayLength%3D6|target:_blank”][vc_btn title=”ESSENTIAL BOOKING INFORMATION” style=”custom” custom_background=”#568ea4″ custom_text=”#eae8e8″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2026%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Contemplation in Community - with Stephen Wright (Fully Booked)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Contemplation in Community – with Stephen Wright: 25th – 31st October 2025\n6 night stays available. \n\n\nWe invite you to join us for this special week of contemplation in community. This week is led by Stephen Wright a member of the Iona Community. It is intended for those who are comfortable with deep spiritual inquiry and ready to go deeper along that particular Way known as contemplation. Stephen will offer an insight into the Heartfulness nature of contemplation\, how to be open to it\, and how to live the contemplative Way in all the gifts and challenges of our everyday lives. \nOur time here will centre around an intensive engagement with contemplative practices. There will be daily periods of group work\, reflection and conversation\, combined with long periods of solitude\, silence and stillness. Both will aid the inner prayerful and reflective journey that supports our longing for relationship in the One in whom ‘we live and move and have our being’. \nWe will be further nurtured by the sacred presence of Iona Abbey and its community\, the elemental beauty of this special island and its long history of attentiveness to the sacred. \nThere will also be moments of grounding our insights by helping with the everyday tasks of living in community. The deep inner life does not have to be separate from the outer. \nShared expectations and practicalities\nMost meals and interim activities will be taken in silence\, but there will be opportunities\, for those who wish\, to enjoy social time and conversation.  \nAccommodation will be offered as single occupancy rooms at Iona Abbey. Private time is an essential component of this programme. However\, we can offer room sharing if you wish to bring a close friend or partner also wishing to join the course. \n\n\nFacilitator\nLed by Stephen Wright\, this programme will draw upon the collaborative work of the Sacred Space Foundation and the Diocese of Carlisle in the St. Kentigern School and Community for Contemplatives. Stephen is a Member of the Iona Community\, a director of the Sacred Space Foundation\, an ordained Interfaith minister and spiritual director. \nYou can listen to Stephen’s Heartfulness webinar\, given to the Iona Community in May 2022\, here: \n \nCosts \n6 Nights: £846.00 per adult\, £423.00 for reduced rate – see our programme page for more information.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here for 6 nights: 25th – 31st October” style=”custom” custom_background=”#568ea4″ custom_text=”#eae8e8″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2025-10-25%26stayLength%3D6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]

SUMMARY:Faith and Friendships (3 night stay also available)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Faith and Friendships: driving positive change in challenging times: 4th – 10th October 2025 \nWe live in an increasingly polarised world with very few opportunities to get away and spend meaningful time with people of different backgrounds to our own. This Faith & Friendship week is for those who are\, or who would like to be\, engaged with communities\, bringing people together across difference and seeking to nurture and implement values related to peace\, justice\, and compassionate leadership. \nGathering with individuals of diverse faiths and backgrounds\, this week will be rooted in lived experiences. We will develop practical skills\, have opportunities to listen and share wisdom\, renew our confidence and build new connections. Together we will explore the theme in practical\, creative and interactive ways. \nThree night stays now also available for this week\, from 4th – 7th October or from 7th – 10th October. However\, due to the nature of the programme\, those staying for three nights won’t be able to attend the Faith and Friendships – thank you for your understanding. \nProgramme leaders    \n\nWahida Shaffi has over 20 years’ experience working with diverse communities from across the UK. SUMMARY:Odd women and even odder men - John Bell (FULLY BOOKED)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Odd women and even odder men – John Bell: 27th September – 3rd October – FULLY BOOKED \n(WAITING LIST: please contact ionaabbeybookings@iona.org.uk to add your name.) \nInfanticide encouraged by a bald man\, a king humiliated by a female protestor\, a poem about trees to undermine tyranny\, and wild honey past its sell-by date. It’s all in the Bible\, where minor figures become heroes and the big noises are silenced. We explore hidden gems and unlikely saviours.  \nIn early decades\, the News of the World advertised itself with the strap-line ‘All human life is here’. The same could or should be said of the Bible\, but for many people of faith and on the fringes of faith\, it is a largely unexplored book. We know who the names of the ‘greats’ -Abraham\, Moses\, David\, Jesus\, Paul. But the lesser luminaries have much to offer\, especially in the Hebrew Scriptures which abound in mini-biographies which are seldom explored.  \nJohn Bell has had a long and deep fascination with the Bible\, especially the people and incidents which do not appear in the Sunday readings. These lesser known texts humanise the scriptures and turn black and white into technicolour. And many of these will be up for exploration in this week at Iona Abbey. \nProgramme leader \n\n\n \n\nJohn Bell is an ordained minister\, a member of the Iona Community and a writer and occasional broadcaster. He is a much-loved contributor at Greenbelt Festival. He teaches and lectures worldwide on issues of faith\, social justice\, music and liturgy. \n\n  \n  \n\nCosts \n\n6 Nights: £846.00 per adult\, £423.00 for reduced rate – see our programme page for more information.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”BOOK HERE” style=”custom” custom_background=”#568ea4″ custom_text=”#eae8e8″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2025-09-27%26stayLength%3D6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Reading the Bible as Earth People - Brian McLaren (FULLY BOOKED)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\nReading the Bible as Earth People: 30 August – 5 September 2025  \nIf you’re like most people\, you’ve been taught the Bible from the perspective of colonisers. What would it mean to rediscover the Bible as a guide to helping people resist death-dealing civilisations?  \nWhat better place than Iona to rediscover the Bible as an ecological and indigenous text? Where better to find wisdom and courage when it feels like the world is falling apart?  \nThe natural beauty of Iona will set the backdrop for rediscovering the Bible as “people of red Earth” (the meaning of Adam in Genesis). Brian will offer high-altitude overviews\, close readings of key texts\, and ample opportunity for in-depth conversation. If you’re a pastor\, priest\, or other spiritual leader\, the sessions will help you professionally. If you breathe Earth’s air\, drink her water\, eat of her bounty\, and enjoy her beauty\, this week will equip you as a contemplative activist and lifelong member of Team Earth going forward.  \nProgramme leader: \nThis week will be facilitated by Brian McLaren: author\, former pastor\, activist\, and teacher with the Center for Action and Contemplation. You can view Brian’s website here. \n  \n  \n  \n\nCosts\n6 Nights: £846.00 per adult\, £423.00 for reduced rate – see our programme page for more information.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”BOOK HERE” style=”custom” custom_background=”#568ea4″ custom_text=”#eae8e8″ link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2025-08-30%26stayLength%3D6″][/vc_column][/vc_row]

DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Peace building in a world of conflict: 9th – 15th August 2025\nNote we have one female and one male space remaining. \n“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”.   \n The Iona Community is committed through its Members to work for peace within our own communities and in the wider world. This is a challenging but all the more important time to be addressing such issues. During our week together on Iona we will\, with experienced peace builders\, explore what peace and security means in the local and wider context.   \n We will hear about tried and tested peacebuilding theories\, strategies and initiatives in a variety of situations with speakers from the Fellowship of Reconciliation\, Rethinking Security\, Quaker peace work and Ulster University. This will give us the opportunity to develop practical ideas which we can then implement in our own circumstances and localities.  \nIn addition to input and discussion sessions\, workshops and creative opportunities the week will allow plenty of free time to explore the island.   \nProgramme leaders \nMargery Toller\, CCN Peace Moderator\nA peace activist\, Margery Toller has been involved in protests in London\, Glasgow and at Greenham Common\, Molesworth\, Faslane and Menwith Hill.
