SUMMARY:Hopeful Imagination - Alastair McIntosh (fully booked)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\nWe live in times of turmoil – wars\, climate change\, poverty\, the pushing back of democracy. Times where religion itself is being idolatrously abused to serve power\, just as Christ himself was tempted: “All these kingdoms can be yours….”   \nAlice Walker said\, “Resistance is the secret of possessing joy.” From where might such joy resurge? The Celtic saints knew. They understood – as do some of today’s great theologians like Walter Wink and Walter Brueggemann – the deep imagination\, both our own and that of God.  \nThrough talks\, walks and a shared common life this week Alastair McIntosh will explore the imagination and action across three themes. Re-membering what has been dismembered\, what has brought us both individually and collectively to where we are now. Re-visioning how spiritual hope can renew our lives and the world. And Re-claiming spiritual skills\, especially those of prophetic vision\, action and discernment.  \nLike the nuns and monks of St Coumba’s time\, what might we learn from a week in community with one another\, with God and with nature? What might we take back out to the world\, perhaps in “new ways found to touch the hearts of all”? \nWe’ll explore through talks from Alastair\, and walks\, and sharing in the common life at Iona Abbey. Delight!  \nBackground reading: \nWalter Brueggemann\, Hopeful Imagination   \nAlastair McIntosh\, Poacher’s Pilgrimage  \nAlice Walker\, Revolutionary Petunias  and Horses Make a Landscape Look more Beautiful (poetry)  \nProgramme leader \n\n\n \n\nAlastair McIntosh is a human ecologist and Quaker from the Isle of Lewis\, a trustee of the GalGael Trust in Govan\, and an honorary professor at Glasgow University. His books include Soil and Soul\, Poacher’s Pilgrimage and Spiritual Activism.   \n\nwww.AlastairMcIntosh.com  \n  \n  \n  \n\nCosts \n\n6 Nights: £870 or £435 concession[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2026-10-03%26stayLength%3D6|target:_blank” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2026%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Politics\, Power and Protest
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]\n\nThe late Archbishop Desmond Tutu once famously observed\, “When people say that religion and politics don’t mix\, I wonder which Bible it is they are reading.” Engagement with politics is one vital way that Christians can live out the commandment to love our neighbours\, seek justice and peace\, and pursue God’s kingdom.  \nThis can daunting\, dangerous or a diversion when the political world is often shouty and toxic and there seems little common ground. Yet this is a time when we need politics – and good people willing to serve in public life – to rise to the many complex long-term challenges facing us locally\, nationally and globally. \nWe’ll spend some time exploring the relationship between faith and politics\, and looking at lessons from the Bible and history about different ways of engaging with power and politics – from protest to participation. \nWe’ll hear about the reality of life as a politician\, and how some church communities have been able to build purposeful relationships with MPs\, modelling an approach to politics characterised by listening\, kindness and truthfulness. \nThroughout we will have opportunities to reflect on our own experience\, context\, power and calling\, and how we might use them to further the causes we believe in. \nProgramme facilitators \nSimeon Mitchell leads the Joint Public Issues Team\, which helps the Baptist\, Methodist and United Reformed Churches\, and the Church of Scotland\, to work together for justice and peace. He is a Methodist\, living in Oxford\, with a background is in international development. \n  \n  \n\n  \n  \n\nRevd. Steve Tinning is a Baptist minister and serves as the Baptist Union’s Public Issues Enabler and as a member of the Joint Public Issues Team. At heart\, Steve is an activist\, with practical theology and community-organising theory working as the foundations of a ministry of justice and compassion. \n  \n  \n  \nCost \n\n6 Nights: £870 or £435 concession[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2026-10-17%26stayLength%3D6|target:_blank” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2026%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Contemplation in Community - with Stephen Wright (FULLY BOOKED)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Contemplation in Community – with Stephen Wright \n\n\nWe invite you to join us for this special week of contemplation in community. This week is led by Stephen Wright a member of the Iona Community. It is intended for those who are comfortable with deep spiritual inquiry and ready to go deeper along that particular Way known as contemplation. Stephen will offer an insight into the Heartfulness nature of contemplation\, how to be open to it\, and how to live the contemplative Way in all the gifts and challenges of our everyday lives. \nOur time here will centre around an intensive engagement with contemplative practices. There will be daily periods of group work\, reflection and conversation\, combined with long periods of solitude\, silence and stillness. Both will aid the inner prayerful and reflective journey that supports our longing for relationship in the One in whom ‘we live and move and have our being’. \nWe will be further nurtured by the sacred presence of Iona Abbey and its community\, the elemental beauty of this special island and its long history of attentiveness to the sacred. \nThere will also be moments of grounding our insights by helping with the everyday tasks of living in community. The deep inner life does not have to be separate from the outer. \nShared expectations and practicalities\nMost meals and interim activities will be taken in quiet\, but there will be opportunities\, for those who wish\, to enjoy social time and conversation.  \nAccommodation will be offered as single occupancy rooms at Iona Abbey. Private time is an essential component of this programme. However\, we can offer room sharing if you wish to bring a close friend or partner also wishing to join the course. \n\n\nFacilitator\nLed by Stephen Wright\, this programme will draw upon the collaborative work of the Sacred Space Foundation and the Diocese of Carlisle in the St. Kentigern School and Community for Contemplatives. Stephen is a Member of the Iona Community\, a director of the Sacred Space Foundation\, an ordained Interfaith minister and spiritual director. \nYou can listen to Stephen’s Heartfulness webinar\, given to the Iona Community in May 2022\, here: \n \nCosts \n6 Nights: £870 or £435 concession[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fportal.freetobook.com%2Freservations%3Fw_id%3D43736%26w_tkn%3DZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%26checkIn%3D2026-10-24%26stayLength%3D6|target:_blank” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2026%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][/vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column]

Over six days\, you’ll help prepare the Abbey for the season ahead\, working alongside staff\, volunteers and other guests to create a welcoming environment for those who will visit throughout the year. \nThis Iona work week combines meaningful work with worship\, shared meals and time to enjoy the island. Whether you’re interested in volunteering on Iona\, looking for a volunteering holiday Scotland experience\, or simply want to contribute to something bigger than yourself\, you’ll find opportunities to work\, connect and reflect together. \nMany guests tell us that one of the most rewarding parts of the week is the sense of shared achievement. By the end of your stay\, you’ll have played a part in preparing the Abbey for another season of welcome\, hospitality and community. \nCan’t make these dates? We also offer a Work Week in the autumn (30th October–5th November) as we prepare the Abbey for the quieter winter months. \n\n\n\n\nMeet the Programme Leader(s)\n\n\n\n\nYour week will be guided by members of the Iona Abbey team\, who hold the rhythm of community life\, worship and shared activities throughout your stay. \n\n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\n\nEach day follows a shared rhythm of work\, worship and community life. \nYou’ll spend part of the day helping with practical tasks around the Abbey and grounds. Depending on the needs of the week\, this might include gardening\, painting\, deep cleaning\, preparing worship spaces or other seasonal projects. No specialist skills are required — just a willingness to contribute and work alongside others. \nThere is also time to enjoy the island\, explore the coastline\, and connect with fellow guests over shared meals and conversation. Worship in the Abbey Church is at the heart of each day\, and everyone is warmly invited to take part. \nThis Iona Abbey work week offers a balance of purposeful activity and time to pause. While the week is more hands-on than many of our programmes\, guests often find it to be a deeply rewarding and reflective experience. For those interested in UK Christian volunteering opportunities or a volunteer retreat in Scotland\, it offers a unique way to contribute\, connect and be part of the life of the Abbey. \nThe week concludes with a ceilidh celebration\, giving everyone the chance to come together and celebrate what has been achieved. \n\n\nKey Information\n\n\n\n\nBefore booking\, it’s helpful to know that this week combines practical work with community life at the Abbey. You’ll contribute to a range of seasonal projects while sharing meals\, worship and daily life with staff\, volunteers and other guests. No specialist skills are required\, and accommodation\, meals and programme activities are included in the cost of your stay. \n\n\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Book Spring Work Week” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ size=”lg” css_animation=”none” css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-03-06%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-03-12%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank|rel:nofollow” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_separator css=””][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css_animation=”none” css=”” el_class=”largeheading navy_title”]\nBooking Information\n[/vc_column_text][vc_toggle title=”What’s included” css_animation=”none” custom_font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23568ea4″ custom_google_fonts=”font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”” use_custom_heading=”true”]Your stay at Iona Abbey includes everything you need to fully take part in the experience: \n+ Accommodation in the Abbey \n+ Breakfast\, lunch and dinner each day \n+ All programme sessions \n+ Music\, art and craft opportunities \n+ Guided walks[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Pricing & discounts” css_animation=”none” custom_font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23568ea4″ custom_google_fonts=”font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”” use_custom_heading=”true”] Prices vary depending on the type of week and length of stay. \n\nStandard week (6 nights): from £960 (adult)\n\nReduced rates available from £480\n\n\nNon-Standard Week (6 Nights) from £1\,152 (Adult)\n\nReduced rates available from £576\n\n\nWork Week (6 Nights) from £600 (Adult)\n\nReduced rates available from £300\n\n\nChildren aged 5–15: £480\nChildren under 5: free (contact abbeybooking@iona.org.uk)\n\nA 20% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking. \nWe offer a 50% reduced rate for eligible UK residents\, including: \n+ Students \n+ Those on state benefits or pension \n+ Those earning below the real living wage \n+ Refugees\, asylum seekers\, or those experiencing homelessness \nA 15% family discount is automatically applied for groups of four or more (where adults pay full price). \nWe also have an Access Fund to support those who would not otherwise be able to attend. \nLearn more about financial support and how to apply.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Food & dietary” css_animation=”none” custom_font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23568ea4″ custom_google_fonts=”font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”” use_custom_heading=”true”]All meals are provided\, with a focus on: \n+ Healthy\, seasonal\, and locally sourced ingredients \n+ Primarily vegetarian meals (with one optional meat meal per week) \nWe can cater for most dietary requirements (including vegan\, gluten-free\, and dairy-free)\, but please let us know in advance.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Accommodation” css_animation=”none” custom_font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23568ea4″ custom_google_fonts=”font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”” use_custom_heading=”true”]+ 21 guest rooms (single\, twin\, triple and family rooms) \n+ Some rooms are accessible\, with lift access available to certain areas \n+ Guests may be asked to share a room\, particularly if travelling alone \n+ Families of up to four can usually be accommodated in one room \nIf you have specific requirements (e.g. accessibility or room type)\, please let us know when booking. \nFor full room details and accessibility information\, see our Accommodation FAQs.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title=”Support our Access Fund” custom_font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:left|color:%23568ea4″ custom_google_fonts=”font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”” use_custom_heading=”true”]While you are making your own booking\, please consider making a donation towards the Access Fund if you are able to\, which allows financially disadvantaged people to stay at Iona Abbey. Those who cannot keep up are left behind. \nThrough movement\, reflection and conversation\, we’ll explore what it means to live well in a complex and unequal world. Led by Palestinian dancer and writer Nada Shawa and movement facilitator Catherine Wright\, this movement retreat combines dance\, storytelling and shared reflection to explore themes of justice\, belonging and human connection. \nNo previous dance experience is required. Whether you’re interested in movement and wellbeing\, justice\, or simply looking for a thoughtful and creative week in community\, you’ll find a warm welcome\, space to reflect\, and opportunities to connect with yourself\, others and the world around you. \n  \n\n\nCosts: 6 Nights: £960 or £480 concession.\nWhere: The Iona Abbey\nWhen: 3 April – 9 April 2027\nLed by: Nada Shawa & Catherine Wright\n\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Book Movement in a Just World” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ size=”lg” css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-04-03%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-04-09%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank|rel:nofollow” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_separator css=””][vc_column_text css=””]\n\n\nAbout the programme\n\n\n\n\nHow do we stay connected to ourselves\, one another and the world in times of uncertainty\, injustice and division? \nThis programme invites you to explore that question through movement\, reflection and community. Led by Nada Shawa and Catherine Wright\, the week uses movement and dance as tools for exploring our shared humanity\, helping us connect more deeply with ourselves\, one another and the world around us. \nThrough guided movement practices\, conversation and reflection\, we’ll explore themes of belonging\, justice\, freedom and connection. Drawing on Nada’s lived experience as a Palestinian artist and Catherine’s work in movement\, spirituality and conflict resolution\, the programme offers space to engage with challenging questions while remaining grounded in community and hope. \nThis movement retreat is designed to be accessible to everyone. Whether you’re interested in movement and wellbeing\, justice\, or simply looking for a thoughtful and creative week in community\, you’ll be warmly welcomed. No previous dance experience is required. \nSet against the landscape of Iona\, the week offers opportunities to move\, reflect\, learn and connect in ways that support both personal growth and collective understanding. \n\n\n\n\nMeet the Programme Leaders\n\n\n\n\nNada Shawa is a Palestinian dancer and writer from Gaza. Born with Cerebral Palsy\, she was schooled and treated for her condition when she came to Scotland\, without her family at the age of eight. Nada was unable to return to Palestine due to the dangererous situation under the Israeli occupation. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an honours degree. She has been invited to perform at multiple solidarity fundraisers. Nada has performed widely dance and her own written material at multiple International arts festivals\, including the Edinburgh International Festival\, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival\, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. She explores themes of belonging\, memory\, and political consciousness\, bringing a nuanced perspective to conversations around diaspora and cross-cultural experience. \n  \n\n \nCatherine Wright has a Ph.D in the philosophy of mind. She taught philosophy in both the USA and in Scotland. In the 1990’s she found Conscious Dance as a spiritual practice and path. Since then\, she has qualified as a teacher and facilitator in Movement Medicine. She says\, “The wisdom we can access through our bodies has woven itself into everything I do. In all of my work and study\, my intention is to more fully understand myself and our shared humanity.” She enjoys working as a coach\, mentor and supervisor of dancers\, dance teachers\, and OneSpirit ministers. She also works in conflict resolution. If you wish to learn more look at Catherine’s Dancer’s story here. (https://schoolofmovementmedicine.com/catherine-wrights-story) \n  \n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\n\nEach day will include a blend of movement\, reflection\, conversation and community life\, creating space to explore both personal and collective questions about justice\, connection and what it means to live well in today’s world. \nGuided by Nada and Catherine\, you’ll take part in accessible movement practices designed to help you connect more deeply with yourself\, others and your surroundings. Alongside these sessions\, there will be opportunities for discussion\, storytelling and shared reflection\, drawing on themes of belonging\, freedom\, identity and hope. \nNo previous dance experience is required. The focus is not on performance or technique\, but on participation\, curiosity and discovering what movement can teach us about ourselves and our relationships with others. \nEach day follows the wider rhythm of life at the Abbey\, with shared meals\, worship and time to enjoy the island. There will also be space for personal reflection\, quiet walks and informal conversations with fellow guests. \nThis UK movement retreat offers a balance of structured programme sessions and time to pause\, creating a week that is thoughtful\, creative and deeply rooted in community. Through exploring movement and justice and movement and wellbeing\, you’ll be invited to engage both heart and mind while connecting with the unique landscape and spirit of Iona. \n\n\nKey Information\n\n\n\n\nBefore booking\, it’s helpful to know that this programme combines movement\, reflection\, discussion and community life throughout the week. SUMMARY:John Bell: Adventures in Eden (Bookings on hold)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]What do these stories in common: a woman who talks to snakes\, a fruit tree which ruins the taste buds\, a landlover who builds a floating zoo\, a world-beating political project which ruins the nation\, a god who prefers market gardening to shepherding? If you look in the first chapters of the book of Genesis\, you will find all these. But what have they to do with the earth’s ecosystem\, the rise of new empires\, the role of women and international relations? \nJohn Bell believes these ancient stories have profound truths which speak into the age we live in and the faith we share. \n  \nProgramme Leader \n \nJohn Bell is an ordained minister\, a member of the Iona Community and a writer and occasional broadcaster. He is a much-loved contributor at Greenbelt Festival. He teaches and lectures worldwide on issues of faith\, social justice\, music and liturgy. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nCosts \n6 Nights: £960 per adult\, £480 concession. \nBookings for this week are currently on hold; please keep a look out on the website for updates\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Adventures of Eden Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-04-10%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-04-16%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank|rel:nofollow” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2026%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Praying in Flesh and Bone
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Praying in Flesh and Bone aims to widen our understanding and practice of prayer through paying attention to the physical body. \nDuring this week\, we will learn how the body accompanies us in prayer through preparation (breath work)\, setting intentions (for reflection)\, focus (centering images and gestures)\, expression (movement)\, and anticipation (gestures of invitation). \nWe will explore how attention to the body enhances our ability to pray within our faith tradition with openness to all others. In conversation and exploration\, we will attend to how the body can support prayers that invite us to: hold\, heal\, and hope. \nThe human body\, individually and in community\, will become a rich medium for connecting to God\, our inner self\, others\, and creation. \nSome mobility (e.g. ability to transition between standing and sitting) is required\, but we will offer accommodations for ranges of ability. \n  \nProgramme Leader \nMiriam Y. Perkins\, Ph.D.\, is Professor of Theology at Emmanuel Christian Seminary teaching graduate courses in residence and online. She is an ordained minister\, yoga instructor (YRT 200 & stretch coach)\, and lover of all things outdoors. She and her spouse grow and share a large neighborhood garden from their home in the United States. \n  \n  \n  \nCosts \n6 Nights: £960 per adult\, £480 concession.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-05-08%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-05-14%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank|rel:nofollow” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2027%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Active Hope
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Following Joanna Macy’s ‘Work That Reconnects’ framework\, this week offers the opportunity to engage with three stories of our time: Business as Usual\, The Great Unraveling and the Great Turning. \nThroughout the week\, we will learn about and move along a “Spiral Journey”\, beginning with Gratitude\, followed by Honouring our Pain for the World\, Seeing Things with New Eyes and Going Forth with Renewed Energy. \nMoving through the Spiral is a practice that can be repeated whenever we feel frustrated or stuck in a world of ongoing and increasing suffering and injustice\, the climate crisis being our focal point. \nThe programme will give us a number of tools and practices that we can take into our own lives and use whenever there is a need for renewed hope. There will be guided meditations\, group exchanges\, and a variety of creative practices\, including an easy-to-learn dance. \nMost of the programme will take place indoors\, but we will also make use of the beautiful surroundings to help us to relate to our environment in a holistic way\, an integral part of the place and interwoven in the fabric of creation. \n  \nProgramme Leaders \n  \n\nMonica Mueller-Roemer is a retired system analyst and project manager. These days\, she leads and organises Spiritual Retreats in the Anglican/Episcopal Church. She is a member of the Climate and Creation Care Ministry in the Episcopal Church in Europe and a Member of the Iona Community. Monica lives in Frankfurt\, Germany. \n  \n  \n  \nChristopher Jage-Bowler is from the UK\, lives in Berlin\, and is an ordained Anglican priest. Interests include spirituality\, ecology\, bibliodrama\, and inter-cultural exchange. \n  \n  \n  \nCosts \n6 Nights: £960 per adult\, £480 concession.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-06-19%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-06-25%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank|rel:nofollow” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2027%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Seabirds\, Sundew and the Spirit
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]From corncrakes to gannets\, from marsh orchids to sea ferns and from seals to the increasingly rare heath snail\, summer on Iona provides plenty of look out for. In the course of this week we will be exploring different habitats and using our observational skills as we combine bird watching with plant hunting in search of the island’s fascinating wildlife. In our sessions we will be learning not just how to recognise the birds and plants but some of the stories behind them\, including their folklore. We will using all this as we explore a spirituality of the environment based on attentiveness and awareness and a reciprocal relationship with the earth. We will look at how this is manifested in various cultures and how we can develop a contemporary approach that combines past tradition with present experience in order to help us confront the current environmental crisis. \n  \nProgramme Leader \n  \nBob Gilbert is an environmental writer and broadcaster\, his books include ‘The Green London Way\, ‘The Missing Musk‘ and ‘Ghost Trees’. His work for BBC Radio 4 includes ‘The Sussuration of Trees‘\, and ‘The Passion: a Pilgrimage in Plants’. An Associate Member of the Iona Community\, Bob is a Quaker living in London. \n  \n  \n  \nCosts \n6 Nights: £960 per adult\, £480 concession.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book Here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-06-26%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-07-02%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank|rel:nofollow” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2027%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Families Week 2027
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Calling all children and young people and their parents\, grandparents\, godparents and other important adults in their lives: \nCome and join us for our families week\, a programme designed for families of all shapes and sizes! \nYou’ll be living in an ancient abbey on a remote and beautiful island full of exciting plants and wildlife. We’ll have lots of time to explore the island\, to have fun and play games together\, to work on craft projects at the big refectory tables\, to join in daily task teams to keep the Abbey running\, and to be a part of our worship services. \nEach family will be allocated their own room or rooms (i.e. a family of 4 might be accommodated in one room with 4 beds\, or in two rooms with 2 beds in each). Where more than one room is required we will ensure the rooms are close to one another. We have 2 rooms which can sleep 4 people\, and 3 rooms which can sleep 3 people. The majority of our rooms sleep 2 people. \nIf you have any questions or would like to discuss any requests or requirements please get in touch. \nWhether you’ve come to Iona many times or whether you’ve never been\, no matter who you are\, your family is welcome\, and we are looking forward to having you with us! \nMore information on Programme Facilitators to come soon. \n  \nCosts \n6 Nights: £960 per adult\, £480 concession. \n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_btn title=”Book here” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fbooking-directly.com%2Fwidgets%2FZ8ayvaEvw2SsrbCpGHLzeQZxQGqxQJy163aSHXVJnHbgCb53vffml4WKihlt5%2Fproperties%2Funit-selection%3Fsearch_stay_dates%3D%257B%2522checkInDate%2522%253A%25222027-07-31%2522%252C%2522checkOutDate%2522%253A%25222027-08-06%2522%257D%26search_occupancies%3D%255B%257B%2522numberOfAdults%2522%253A2%252C%2522children%2522%253A%255B%255D%257D%255D|target:_blank” el_class=”tealbtn generalbtn”][vc_btn title=”Essential Booking Information” style=”custom” custom_text=”#666666″ css=”” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fiona.org.uk%2Fvisit-and-stay%2Fiona-abbey-essential-booking-information-2026%2F|target:_blank” el_class=”tealoutlinebtn generalbtn rightbtn”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
