DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Quiet Processes and Small Circles \nA special week for Members of the Iona Community to gather on the Isle of Iona. This week offers a chance to reconnect with the Community’s commitment to peace\, justice\, and the renewal of worship. \nWhether you’re long connected or a new Member\, all Members of the Iona Community are welcome to this unique week of faith and fellowship. \nPlease note you must be a Member of the Iona Community to attend this week\, find out more about membership here. \nMore information to be announced. \n \nWe’ll be joined this year by Laurel Townhead. Laurel serves as Director of QUNO Geneva\, leading and enabling the whole staff team to realise a vision of a UN system and community of nations that support and uphold the dignity of all\, so that peace and justice can flourish and our shared home can be nurtured. Laurel started her life in community on the moors in Yorkshire and grew up in Sheffield. She enjoys being in nature\, snowshoeing in the winter and swimming in the lake in the summer and being with her family (in any season). Laurel is a Member of South East London Area Meeting and appreciates getting to align her faith with her work and connecting to Quaker witness \nBefore becoming Director in September 2025\, Laurel was QUNO Human Rights and Refugees Representative for 11 years\, leading QUNO’s work to uphold the dignity of all members of our human family – with a focus on migration\, conscientious objection to military service and criminal justice systems. This was a significant part of the Laurel’s 20+ years of experience working on the promotion and protection of human rights nationally and through the UN human rights system\, on a range of issues including criminal justice\, migration\, refugee protection\, children’s rights and women’s rights.
