On this page we will be posting information about alternative gatherings and different ways of being in contact with one another during the restrictions related to Covid19. We will also be sharing information about how to use different platforms for gathering such as Zoom. If you have questions about these you can post them here and we will try and answer them, or point you towards somewhere you can find answers. If you are planning a meeting using a platform like Zoom and want to open that to Members and Associates beyond your own Family Group, send the details to [email protected] and we can post details and the link here so that other Members can join.

If you are not familiar with WhatsApp, it is a messaging service which is free and very easy to use – you can also send files and pictures and use it to make phone calls and video calls. It is available for smartphones, PCs and Macs. You can learn more and how to get it here
Weekly Iona Community Office via Zoom
We are just starting what we hope will be a weekly meeting together to say the office using the Zoom platform. Zoom is a conferencing platform which, once again is very easy to use. It is totally free and can be accessed via a computer or a smartphone (and even a landline – though this is not ideal). You do not need to download anything: you simply click on the link (which can be sent through an email or shared online (as we will do here) and it will open in a browser window. It will ask you ‘do you want this page to open zoom.us?’ (the precise wording may vary depending on the sort of device you are using) – simply click ‘allow’ and it will take you through to the meeting. It will then ask whether you want to join by video – if you do people will be able to see you, if you don’t you will still be able to see others but they will only be able to hear you (however they will see your name in a window so they will know you are there.) When we do the first few Zoom Office meetings we will explain various bits and pieces to folk so that everyone can become familiar with the platform – and we will probably also post a document here a guide that you can study at your leisure).

At the moment the plan is to hold these weekly meetings on a Tuesday – gathering at 6:45pm (Uk time) and beginning the Office at 7:00pm – with time after for those who want to stay in the chat room and share news.
It is hoped that as people become familiar with Zoom and how easy it is to use, then folk might set up their own little gatherings for saying the office at dates and times which work for them.
You can join anytime from 6:45 onwards and the liturgy will start at 7:00pm
Please note that due to changes made by ZOOM we now also need to have a password for these meetings.

NB. Should you experience any difficulty using the link, simply go to Zoom directly (click here), select the ‘Join a meeting option’ and then enter the following information when prompted:

Be sure to add Zoom to your favourites.
If you would like to join the gathering by telephone, please phone any of the following numbers at the start of the service. You will be prompted to insert the Meeting ID and Password (above) on your phone. You will then be a participant in the gathering along with everyone else.
