The Island Centres
The Iona Community run 3 island residential Centres on the isle of Iona and on nearby Mull. Our centres are places of welcome and hospitality where individuals and groups take part in weeks on a variety of themes with an exciting range of leaders. The Abbey - Isle of Iona
A Resident Group of staff and volunteers share a year-round common life, and maintain daily services in the Abbey. They welcome guests to share all aspects of their life, including meals and work tasks, and to explore issues of common concern. Trade justice, the environment, peacemaking, interfaith dialogue; these are just some of the subjects that people get passionate about in our programmes. more..........
The MacLeod Centre - Isle of Iona
The MacLeod Centre, opened in 1988 with good disabled access, has a particular emphasis on enabling young people and families to get the most out of a stay on Iona. Walks and expeditions, arts & crafts, discovering the natural environment of Iona, social events and ceilidhs, a children’s programme during the Easter and summer holidays, conversation and recreation, all take place in a safe and friendly community environment. The Camas Centre - Island of Mull
Camas Tuath on the Ross of Mull offers a rewarding outdoor experience for young people. Situated on a remote bay three miles from Iona, with its own organic garden and native species woodland, adventure, environmental and creative activities make Camas a great resource for young people, schools andpeople with special needs. In all our centres, discounted and subsidized terms are available to ensure no one is excluded on grounds of income, especially those unable to access holidays elsewhere. To apply, please contact the Bookings Office on Iona.
How To Get To Iona
Between early March and mid-October, trains and buses leave Glasgow Queen St and Buchanan St stations around 0800 and 1200 noon (depending on season - please check with service provider).
The morning departures get you to Oban in time for the mid-day ferry from Oban to the Isle of Mull, which is met by the local service bus which takes you through Mull to Fionnphort, where you take the afternoon ferry to Iona. The mid-day departures from Glasgow get you to Oban in time for the 1600 ferry to Mull, the 1650 bus through Mull and the 1815 ferry to Iona.
Out of season, the 1800 Iona ferry has to be booked by phoning 01680 812343 before 4pm the day before you require the ferry.
All times given are approximate and must be checked. Please note that cars are not permitted on Iona and must be left either in Oban long-stay car parks, or in Fionnphort, Mull.
