GERMAN SPEAKING REGION
Our Region covers Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We call ourselves DACH for short. We currently have 8 Family Groups spread throughout the Region (6 in Germany, 1 in Austria, 1 in Switzerland) and we are working to grow these.
HOW WE WORK IN THIS REGION
The German Region focusses mainly on the engagement of our Family Groups. There are several engaged groups of Members and Associate Members meeting to act on the concerns of the Iona Community. For example, we have groups for peace and justice, ecology, and LGBTQ+.
We love the music and liturgies of the Iona Community, and a lot of German speaking folks travel to Scotland on a regular basis.
We emphasize and strengthen our relationships between our Iona Community groups in our neighborhoods, and also online. We are very happy to continue to build the German speaking (DACH) region from January 2022 on.
KEY PARTNERS AND NETWORKS IN THIS REGION
The Iona Community is a Member of Oikosnet Europe, an ecumenical network of Christian academies and laity centres in Europe. Within this network there are German-speaking laity centres and academies in Austria, Germany and Switzerland with whom we have an increasingly deep relationship.
The Iona Community regularly contributes to the Kirchentag festival, a bi-ennial festival, or Congress, integrating political, social and theological themes with input from global leaders.
In addition, the Iona Community has other informal connections to local church groups and congregations throughout our Region.
