WORSHIP AT IONA ABBEY
Part of our commitment when living in community on Iona is to join together in daily worship.
Staff and guests lead morning and evening services of worship, focussing on welcome, justice and peace, healing, commitment and communion.
All are welcome to explore the worship spaces in and around the Abbey: the Abbey Church with its various chapels, St. Oran’s Chapel in the Relig Oran, or St. Michael’s Chapel facing east.
Morning Worship
Sunday: 10:30; Monday – Thursday: 09:00; Friday: 08:00; Saturday: 09:00
Monday to Saturday: daily worship following the prayers of the Iona Community. We remain standing at the end of this service to leave for the work of the day. This is a powerful reminder that our whole day is enveloped in worship.
Sunday morning: a service of Holy Communion at 10:30. All are welcome to receive the bread and wine.
Evening Worship at 21:00
Evening worship in the Abbey follows a weekly pattern with a focus each evening as follows:
Monday: service of prayers for justice and peace
Tuesday: service of prayers for healing (this service includes prayers for the healing of individuals who have requested this, and prayers for the world.)
Wednesday: service of commitment, often led with the involvement of guests
Thursday: ceilidh communion – an informal communion shared around a common table
Friday evening: no service
Saturday: service of welcome, as our guests typically join us on a Saturday
Sunday: service of quiet – a time for quiet reflection together
