WORSHIP AT IONA ABBEY
Part of our commitment when living in community on Iona is to join together in daily worship.
Staff, volunteers and guests lead morning and evening services, focusing on welcome, justice and peace, healing, commitment and communion. These services are open to all.
All are welcome to explore the worship spaces in and around the Abbey: the Abbey Church with its various chapels, St. Oran’s Chapel in the Relig Oran, and St. Michael’s Chapel facing east.
The rhythm for worship of the Iona Community on Iona, is as follows:
From Saturday 1st November our worship services will be in the Michael Chapel (walk around the left-hand side of the Abbey buildings and the Chapel is found opposite the Museum overlooking the Sound of Iona) rather than in the Abbey Church.
Morning Worship times
Morning worship is daily
Sunday: 10:30am
Monday – Saturday: 9:00am; (9.30am from Saturday 8th November)
Morning services from Monday to Saturday follow the prayers of the Iona Community. We remain standing at the end of this service to leave for the work of the day. This is a powerful reminder that our whole day is enveloped in worship.
Sunday morning
On Sunday mornings, we share an ecumenical service of Holy Communion at 10:30am. All are welcome to receive the bread and wine.
Evening Worship times (until 13th November)
Evening worship is at 9:00pm (7:30pm from 10th November)
Evening services follow a weekly pattern with a different focus each evening.
Sunday: Quiet Service (final one on Sunday 2nd November)
Monday: Service for Justice and Peace
Tuesday: Service of Prayers for Healing*
Wednesday: Agape Service or Evening Liturgy
Thursday: Service of Commitment
Friday evening: No evening service
Saturday evening: Service of Welcome
