We are delighted to launch the volunteer recruitment for the 2027 season at Iona Abbey.
This is an opportunity to live and work in community on a remote Scottish Island where thousands of people come every year. The Iona Abbey Centre offers community living and wider hospitality, through its programme, which is inspired by faith and loving concern for the world and its people, pursuing justice and peace in and through community.
We’re looking for people who can offer their time, skills and willingness for 6 – 12 weeks between March and November 2027.
We’re looking for volunteers from the UK and across the world and from all walks of life, representing a wide range of experiences, age groups, cultural backgrounds and faith traditions.
It helps if you are curious; willing to step into living in community with others, and explore what worship and faith have to offer the world in this time and this place. Volunteers bring their gifts, skills, talents, experience and time. They usually have fun, are nourished, grow new relationships, and are challenged, as well as having an opportunity to live in a very unique building, island, and environment.
We have a range of volunteer roles on offer, in our Kitchen, Housekeeping, Shop, Sacristy, Programme, Music, and Maintenance teams. Volunteers work closely with staff members, carrying out allocated tasks, engaging with guests and visitors, and participating in our common life. Volunteers are trained and supported to carry out their roles, and also have a wide range of opportunities to contribute to hospitality, worship services, meetings, events and activities.
You can find out more information and apply on the Iona Abbey Volunteer page of the Iona Abbey Website. If you have further questions, please contact Rachel Matthews, Volunteer Co-ordinator, on [email protected]
We encourage you to apply by 9am on Monday 16th November. We will start contacting applicants after this date. We will still consider applications after this date, but the number of opportunities will reduce as we confirm people in our 2027 timetable.
