Practising Hope (fully booked)

20 June 2026 @ 3:00 pm - 26 June 2026 @ 9:00 am

Practising Hope

This week will invite us to explore the meaning and practice of hope from multiple dimensions—spiritual, theological, relational, and communal.

Set within the rhythms of community life at Iona Abbey, the week offers a space for reflection, worship, and shared conversation rooted in the Iona Community’s commitment to justice, peace, and the renewal of all creation.

Through prayer, group dialogue, and intentional community living, we will engage with hope not as a vague ideal, but as a lived and transformative force in our lives and in the world.

Programme leader

Woman with grey bobbed hair wearing black glasses, a white polo neck and a cream scarf with grey dots on it.

Catriona Robertson is a former warden of Iona Abbey and previously directed the Christian Muslim Forum. She’s inspired by Howard Thurman’s words, ‘Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what brings you alive, because what the world needs is people who are alive.’

Jane Hodges is an Anglican priest and has served in an East End parish and is a prison chaplain. Prior to ordination Jane worked in housing and social care, in inner city areas of Sheffield, Manchester and London.

Jane is a Member of the Iona Community and joint convenor of the London family group.
