It’s been a year of justice-seeking, authors speaking, and relationship building for the Iona Community. Here are our highlights of 2024.
Contours of Hope
Iona Community Leader, Ruth Harvey, met with author and speaker Brian McLaren to talk about hope, optimism, wisdom, courage and communities of resilience. You can listen in to their inspirational conversation on YouTube.
Standing together
Hundreds of Iona Community Members and Associates support each other in the struggle for peace and justice. This year, they have continued to advocate for a ceasefire in Israel/Palestine, built interfaith relationships, campaigned for climate and racial justice, and stood alongside our siblings in the LGBTQIA+ community. We can’t stand in solidarity alone. Join us.
Authors a-plenty!
John Bell and Ricky Ross sat down for a heart-to-heart in November. Their warm and winding conversation included stories from John’s new book – And then she said – and many more gems.

Daily Worship
We’re rebuilding community through singing – in Iona Abbey, at protest marches, in churches and living rooms. Our wonderful volunteers host online worship 6 days a week on YouTube. Perhaps this could be your daily practice for 2025?
Greenbelt Festival
We followed the Wild Goose to Greenbelt Festival in August. There we sang, dreamed of peace and sheltered from the pouring rain. And we met lots of you. Same time, same place, next year?
Annual Iona Community Lecture
JPIT’s Simeon Mitchell led the Annual Iona Community Lecture in 2024. He inspired us to explore how we can all turn the tables and play a part in building an economy that enables the flourishing of all life.
Community Week
Iona Community Members met in Germany for our annual week-long gathering. In a medieval monastery, we worshipped together, ate, took day trips and revelled in each other’s company.
Down the Track
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us down the track this year. It’s been a joy welcoming so many faces, new and familiar, to the Camas community. Unfortunately Camas will be closed during 2025 to give this 200 year old building some tender, loving care. Keep up to date with our progress on Instagram.
An Abbey Welcome
Our Iona Abbey staff and volunteers welcomed over 1,200 guests to the island between March and November!
“The experience was unique. I leave feeling that I am understood by God and others.” Why don’t you make the pilgrimage to Iona in 2025?
Iona on the airwaves
You might have heard our dulcet tones across the airwaves this year. The Wild Goose Resource Group shared news about their new global music project, John Bell told his life story and Caro Penney danced at Iona Abbey on Channel 4. Lots of our members and authors featured in local press and church blogs too.
Because good news is worth talking about, right? Contact the press centre if you’d like to hear more.
