Prayer of confessionย
God of the liminal places,ย
you draw us into the quietness of the desertย
so that we can encounter ourselvesโฆย
But we confess that all too oftenย
we stubbornly cling to false imagesย
rather than face the necessity of change.ย
ย ย
You call us into the emptiness of the desertย
so that we can confront our desiresโฆย
But we confess that all too oftenย
we continue to choose our own comfortย
rather than serving the needs of others.ย
ย ย
You drive us into the dangers of the desertย
so that we can engage with your Kingdom โฆย
But we confess that all too oftenย
we prefer the smooth roads of safetyย
over the perilous pathways of justice.ย
ย ย
Forgive us, O God,ย
wherever we have chosen to be, or do, or dareย
less than you have asked of us;ย
and as we walk on in the desert with youย
help us watch and wrestle with these thingsย
so that we might choose differently in future.ย
