IONA COMMUNITY
SAFEGUARDING POLICY STATEMENT
The Iona Community longs for a just and peaceful world in which all of life can flourish, that enables ordinary people to do extraordinary things in their local communities. Whenever the Iona Community gathers people together, physically or on-line, all of those present who represent the Iona Community are responsible for and will ensure that all who attend are treated with respect and are, as far as possible, enabled to contribute in a positive and affirming environment. They will seek to support any person who is vulnerable and ensure they are safeguarded from any form of abuse or harm. Where anyone has a concern about a vulnerable person’s wellbeing, they must report that concern to a nominated safeguarding person.
The Iona Community has a presence in many countries, and anyone organizing an event must ensure they fully comply with that nation’s laws on safeguarding/vulnerable people in addition to following this policy. National laws will take precedent over this policy if there is a conflict between them.
This policy explains what safeguarding is, how the Iona Community will manage it, and what steps the Iona Community will take to deal with any concerns or complaints about safeguarding.
The Iona Community will always investigate any concern raised and has zero tolerance to any acts which may lead to a vulnerable person being harmed in any way.
