For some people the Psalms are evocative of what they learned by rote in childhood. Others associate them with particularly poignant events – weddings and funerals. Others yet may regard them as an unnecessary intrusion between the Old Testament and the Epistle when a nice worship song would be much preferable. But what are the Psalms – icons of personal devotion; public prayers and protests; commissioned poems for royal events; revelations of God and God’s purpose…. or all the above and more? It will be the ‘more’ we go for in this retreat as we look at new ways of appreciating these peerless aids to devotion and discipleship.
