February is LGBT+ History month

In the UK February is LGBT+ History Month.

This year the theme is Medicine – #UnderTheScope

Each country around the world selects a month for LGBT(Q) which is the most appropriate to its culture. For Instance, for the USA, October is National Coming Out Day, hence why October is LGBT History Month.  In The Netherlands, it is in March.

In 2004 the UK chose February because that was the month Section 28 was repealed in 2003 in the UK. For such a long time LGBT+ people’s history was hidden, following the repeal of Section 28, schools and other UK government agencies could help claim LGBT’s past, celebrate our present and create a future for all.

A prayer for LGBT History Month (2024)

Holy One,
as we journey through LGBT+ History Month,
help us to claim our past,
celebrate our present,
and trust in your guidance as create an inclusive future.
May we embrace the diverse stories
that are ‘Under the Scope’ and
help us to amplifying their voices.
Help guide us to love every thread
in your beloved tapestry of creation.
