Following early retirement from a career in local government finance, I moved to Malta in 2009. There I founded the financial institution Malta Microfinance, giving small loans to refugees.
On my return in 2016 I joined the board of the Scottish Refugee Council becoming Chair before stepping down in 2022. In 2023 I
became treasurer of Cyrenians and in 2025 Chair of Dunfermline Foodbank.
A member of the Church of Scotland I am passionate about the common concerns of the Iona Community. I am musically
challenged yet wrote to John Bell about the lack of a worship song about refugees and a year later received back the hymn “If”.
I live in Dunfermline with my wife Liz and labradoodle Barney. An enthusiastic gardener and long-suffering fan of Dunfermline Athletic.
