Getting There

See below for travel information.

Buses

Using the First Bus app you can plan your bus trips and it will give you a detailed and timed journey with a map of the bus stops, the times, and showing where your bus is in real time: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/greater-glasgow

Please note that there are multiple bus stops on the same streets in Glasgow city centre – make sure you’re waiting at the right one!

Buses in Glasgow take either exact change or contactless payments. If you use contactless remember to tap both and off the bus.

To get to Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church from Glasgow city centre: catch the number 6 or 6A bus from St Vincent Place (just along from George Square), and get off at Great Western Road at Saltoun Street (you will see the botanic gardens to your right.) The church is a 2-minute walk from there.

To get to Wellington Church of Scotland from Glasgow city centre: catch the 4 or 4A bus from Hope Street, outside Central Station, and get off at University Library. The church is a 1-minute walk from there.

To get to Castlemilk Parish Church from Glasgow city centre: catch the 75 bus from the Ingram Street bus stop close to the Gallery of Modern Art and get off at Castlemilk Drive after you pass the McDonalds. The Church is a 2-minute walk from there.

Subway

https://www.spt.co.uk/travel-with-spt/subway/

Note that the subway is not accessible – it has escalators and stairs, but no lifts.

From Glasgow City Centre: Get on the subway at Buchanan Street or St Enoch and get off at Hillhead. Use the outer circle (if you get on the inner by mistake, don’t worry – you’ll get there eventually!) Both Wellington and Kelvinside Hillhead are a short walk from Hillhead subway station.

Train

Using the Scotrail website or app you can plan your journey: https://www.scotrail.co.uk/

If you are staying outside the city centre, you may wish to use the train. The nearest station to Kelvinside Hillhead and Wellington is Partick Station, but this is still a 25 minute walk. You can however, connect to the subway at Partick and get off at Hillhead, as outlined above.

Driving

Please note that there is limited parking at Kelvinside Hillhead, and none at Wellington. The west end of Glasgow is extremely busy and we recommend using public transport if possible.

There is a small car park on Great George Street/Lilybank Gardens called Lilybank Carpark. It is open all day and charges approx. £3 an hour. It has disabled access and electric car charging facilities.

You can use an app to pay: https://myringgo.co.uk/account/login

However, the app doesn’t work with international numbers, so you will need to bring change.

Walking

The quickest way to get from Kelvinside Hillhead Parish Church to Wellington Church of Scotland is to walk. It takes approx. 14 minutes. Alternatively, you can catch the number 4 or 4A bus from Highburgh Road just off Byres Road and get off at University Library.

Taxis

Taxis in Glasgow are usually reasonably priced. A taxi from the city centre to Kelvinside Hillhead or Wellington churches will cost around £10 – £15. There are black cab taxi queues throughout the city centre, including at George Square, on Hope Street outside central station, and on Queen Street.

You can also call a taxi to arrange immediate or pre-planned pick up.

Two local companies are:

Glasgow Taxis: 0141 429 7070

GlasGo Cabs: 0141 332 5050
