The Iona Community is very pleased to announce the appointment of Ruth Harvey as our new Leader.  Ruth will work alongside an Executive Director, sharing the leadership duties and responsibilities.  We have begun the process of recruitment for this post.

Ruth is a minister of the Church of Scotland and a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers). She lives in Penrith, Cumbria, with Nick and their three daughters. Ruth has been a member of the Iona Community for 27 years, has served on several of its committees, has been a member of its staff, and has edited Coracle, its magazine. She is an experienced writer, preacher and trainer/mediator and brings wide-ranging skills in partnership development, reconciliation and conflict transformation and ecumenical work.

Currently Director of Place For Hope (“accompanying and equipping people and faith communities so that all might reach their potential to be peacemakers”), Ruth has been involved with that charity since its inception in 2009.

Ruth will be hallowed as Leader of the Iona Community at our Annual General Meeting to be held in Glasgow on 23rd May. She will assume her duties in early June.

We invite you to rejoice with us!

Brian Crosby,

Convener of the Council of the Iona Community

  1. Dick and Moreen Gordon says:

We were thrilled to join the inaugural occasion tonight on the ZOOM programme.
It’s many years since we were first on IONA, but my wife and I knew the Harvey family since the late 1950s.
I was a community member from 1961 until it seemed more realistic to join the Corrymeela Community in the 1980s when we were living in Belfast. There have only been three Irish Presbyterian ministers who were members of the Iona Community Alec Watson, John Morrow and myself.
We are now retired and live in Melrose. ZGPN
The prime purpose of this note is to wish Ruth well and to pray for Ruth and her family at this time.

Thank you for those good wishes and prayers Dick and our greetings to you and Moreen. So glad you were able to join with us last night – we were blessed by the presence of so many supporters and well-wishers around the world and it was amazing to fell part of such a web of connection. Stay safe and keep well. Pat
