Hello, I’m Michael, a pastor of the Lutheran Church in Germany. Together with my 12y old son Benjamin I’d like to spend a meaningful time abroad, f.x. in the week after the feast of Easter 2019. As a member of the protestant Church in Bavaria, ELKB, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Iona, of course. So it comes to my mind, to ask under which conditions a short time stay at your community would be possible. I’m looking forward to get some information by you. Thanks and
    kind regards
    Michael Simonsen

Dear Michael, thanks for your enquiry. Unfortunately our own residential centres on Iona will be closed in 2019 as we are in the middle of a large upgrade and refurbishment project (see https://iona.org.uk/capital-appeal-information/ for more information about the work). However there are plenty of other places to stay on Iona – other retreat centres, hotels, B&Bs, camping, hostel, pods etc (you can find details of these on the Island’s own website here http://www.welcometoiona.com/visiting-iona/local-businesses/) – and you would still be able to visit the Abbey and attend services there. Alternatively, the Iona Community also has a centre on Mull at Camas where we do kayaking, abseiling, swimming, wild camping etc. You can see some photos and learn a bit more about Camas and its ethos here https://iona.org.uk/island-centres/camas/ The 2019 programme for Camas is not yet published but if you contact Carol on [email protected] she may be able to let you know when that will be available. Our Abbey Residential Centre on Iona is scheduled to reopen in 2020 and we will once again be extending a welcome to residential guests and running a varied programme. Full details of this will appear on the website next year so do watch out for that too. Hope this helps, and that you and Benjamin manage to visit and enjoy Iona sometime soon. Best Wishes, Pat (Programmes Development Worker)

Hi i am interested in your group in Holland

  3. Nancy Mann says:

Hello, I am a retired pastor and I am interested in attending one of your workshops/programs, likely for a one-week period, in spring/summer 2020. Do you know when this program will be announced?

    • Pat Bennett says:

Hi Nancy. Thanks for your enquiry. We are currently planning the programmes for when the Abbey Centre re-opens next year; we don’t yet have dates confirmed but as soon as these are finalised we will put all the information up on the website and advertise it across our social media platforms. Greetings from San Francisco! I am a member of an Episcopalian community hoping to make a pilgrimage to Iona in June 2021. I have heard the Iona community runs wonderful mid-week pilgrimages on the Island. I wondered if the Iona community would be planning to do this in 2021 (knowing this is some time in the future!) and what day these may take place? We would hope to coordinate our visit around this.

    • Pat Bennett says:

Hi Steph, thanks for the enquiry. Our Centres on Iona are currently closed whilst we undertake upgrade and refurbishment work and though we are scheduled to re-open the Abbey Centre in early summer next year, we are still working on programme details. At this stage it’s not really possible to say whether we will be offering weekly Pilgrimages in 2021 or, if we are, on what day they will be happening. What I suggest is that you keep an eye on the website as this will be the first place we post updates on the programme for 2020 and beyond. Sorry not to be able to give you a definitive answer at this stage. Pat
