PRAYERS FOR HEALING
‘Since its beginning, the ministry of healing has played a vital and central part in the life of the Iona Community. The healing of divisions and splits in our own lives, of broken bodies, painful memories, divided communities and nations, the healing of the earth itself and of our relationship with it, are all part of the integrity to which God calls us. The are all part of the ministry of healing.’
– Ruth Burgess and Kathy Galloway, ‘Praying for the Dawn: a resource book for the ministry of healing’
Through our Prayer Circle we offer this ministry to the wider world as well as to ourselves. In Iona Abbey, every Tuesday evening’s service is one of Prayers for Healing. Prayers are offered for people or situations requested by visitors as well as Abbey guests. There is also the opportunity to hold a candle in a holder and be prayed for. Prayer requests can be left in the South Aisle chapel in Iona Abbey, in St Oran’s Chapel in the Relig Oran, or sent to the Sacristan
‘The healing ministry is first and foremost about justice and peace – about the healing of the nations. But intertwined with that divine imperative is the healing of the individual, the healing of memory, of broken relationships…. The healing of broken minds and bodies is seen as a God-given task for Christ’s disciples in every age.’
– Kate McIlhagga, ‘Praying for the Dawn: a resource book for the ministry of healing’
